Android 4.2 on 0.8% of terminals Gingerbread always beyond 50%

As usual, Google has released the state of fragmentation with Android for the first time figures on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Unsurprisingly, it is this very little (less than 1% of the terminals), while version 4.1 is finally starting to break a little with a 5.9% market share.

like the beginning of each month, the teams in charge of publishing the Android operating system distribution terminals that are connected to Google Play Store during the last fourteen days. Mobiles running an alternative firmware (CyanogenMod for example) are also taken into account.

Note that this is the first report integrating the Android version 4.2 (aka Jelly Bean as 4.1), but the latter has since still marginal as only 0.8% of mobile devices.

Here are the details of fragmentation with brackets changes compared to the previous month :

  • Android 1.5 (aka Cupcake): 0.1% (no change)
  • Android 1.6 (aka Donut): 0.3% (no change)
  • Android 2.1 (aka Eclair): 2.7% (-0.4 points)
  • Android 2.2 (aka Froyo): 10.3% (- 1.7 points)
  • Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread): 50.8% (- 3.4 points)
  • Android 3.x (aka Honeycomb): 1.6% (- 0.2 points)
  • Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich): 27.5% (+1.7 points)
  • Android 4.1 (aka Jelly Bean): 5.9% (+3.2 points)
  • Android 4.2 (aka Jelly Bean): 0.8%
Usually versions prior to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) are cuts, while others rise. Android 4.1 wins 3.2 points from the previous month, against only 1.7 for Android 4.0. Anyway, once Gingerbread is still the version of the operating system most used in over 50% market share.
