An app to know where to see the next eclipses

What next eclipses will be visible at any given point on the planet? Mobile phones can now answer this question through an application developed by a researcher at the University of Barcelona.

Designed for Android smartphones, the application "Eclipse Calculator" was developed by a researcher at the University of Barcelona. Easy to use, it provides information on all solar and lunar eclipses and transits of planets from 1900 to 2100. It helps to know the general circumstances of the phenomenon, including maps of visibility and its local circumstances for any place in the world: start, end, duration, altitude of the Sun or the Moon above the horizon etc.

Eclipse Calculator also allows for simulations of the phenomenon from the point of observation. The application can be downloaded for free from the website Google Play. It was developed initially in Catalan, Spanish and English, but translations into other languages ??are planned.

"Our goal is to promote the general interest to observe the sky and these particular phenomena," said Eduard Masana, researcher of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (northeast of Spain ).
